New Hipter Clutches!

Some days I love my job. And finally today is one of those days. It started slow, sewing patches on Girl Scout Vests, answering email. But once I got down to my studio things went well. Then I had to hop in the car for a meeting. The meeting went well and I can say be on the look out for some cool new crafty events from me!

I spent my morning studio time cutting out. Which never feels glamorous. But in reality is the most important part of the whole "sewing" process. It is when you make the decisions that will determine how your finished project will look. The cutting is what determines if your project will succeed or fail. It is cutting mistakes that can be impossible to come back from. Cutting is my strong point. I am brave, I am bold, I make snap decisions and I do not have a lot emotionally invested in my fabric. Especially if it is to be sold. I cannot fall in love with something and then sell it. It is like a farmer naming her hogs. Don't name them if you're gonna eat them (or sell them for someone else to eat).

But I digress.......

Today when i was sewing I fell in love. Breaking my own rule.

I know she's beautiful right? Sparkle tweed and stretch lingerie lace. These are some of my last pieces of sparkle tweed. It is one of my favorite fabrics ever and I really hope to find some more. I thought I was in love with this gal until I starting making the next one.

She is sexy right? Lace, red lining but the tweed keeps it from going too sexy. It hits just the right note. And I am keeping this one because I am in love!

I hate to separate them because they do look pretty great together. But I am going to keep one and sell one. Maybe one day they will meet again.

The fold - over in the back will be off to HomeGrown Decatur soon, with many more creations I plan to make in the next few days. I will be sad to see her go but like a farmer I need to make money off the fruits of my labor. Sometimes it is hard.

Hope you have a safe and Happy, HALLOWEEN!! Tomorrow I will have a new costume to show you!

Peace Out - Chrissy

Buttons, Buttons, Buttons

I have a large number of buttons. I could go into the long story of why, but I will spare you. I also had a table that was a mess. If I was going to keep it, it needed work. So I painted it. But the top was pretty badly damaged and needed something to make it look better. I went to Lowes and bought some pretty tiles. But when I got them home I realized that they were to tall and would stick up too far off the table. So I looked around my studio for something else.

Buttons!! Yes buttons instead of tile became the answer. It took a while to get all these buttons glued down. I used good old E-6000. Which smells terrible, so I worked in the garage with a fan on and had to take frequent breaks. I did not want the glue to show. And I did not think any sort of grout would work. Therefore I put a small dot of glue on each button.  Then I got sick of that so I would put a thin line of glue and stick buttons on that way for a while.

I also spray painted the lamps and put new lamp shades on them! The lamps were very outdated. I am sure they were expensive when my mom bought them in the 90s so at least they are getting a 2nd life rather than heading to Goodwill.

I think the overall effect turned out even better than I had hoped. It is simple and modern and still a little whimsical when you look close.

So if you have a giant bucket of buttons glue them to something! Or give them to me and I will find a use for them.

I better get back to the machine!

Peace out peeps,
Chrissy

Ode to my favorite coffee cup!

Recently I broke my favorite coffee cup! It was SAD!! I wanted to cry. My sweet husband had painted it for me at one of those paint your own pottery places. And I loved it. This is what it looks like now.

But as you may know it has often made appearances in my pictures. Like this one:

And this one:

I could go on and on, the cup made many appearances. But I need to get over it and get back to work. However I think that someone needs to paint me a new one!

Oh coffee cup how did I love thee......

I promise, more fun sewing stuff soon!
Hope you have a great weekend!
Peace Out - Chrissy
