Hot Pink T-Shirt, Is this neck line too high?

Back in January I did a fun T-Shirt making workshop over at Make with Diana Rupp. Check is out here.

The original t-shirt was rather cute, but I wanted to make changes. It is a boat neck t, but it was too wide on my tiny shoulders and my bra straps show. I do not like any sort of underwear to be visible so the original shirt will only be worn over things like in the picture on my previous post about t-shirts.

So I made some changes to the pattern that I got from Diana.
- brought in the shoulder
- narrowed the boat neck openenig
- shortened the sleeves to elbow length
- lengthened the shirt to a tunic length

Here is the resulting t-shirt.

I am thinking it is fairly cute overall but the neck may be a but too high? Do I look like a floating head? Or am I being overly critical? Let me know what you think.

Today I met up with a fellow sewer / artist / doer of brave things. And she was amazing! Why did I not find her when I first got to NY?? I am hoping to see her one more time before we both head off on summer adventures. But it reminded me that friends are fun! I have not had enough friend hang out time since I have been here and that is what I am looking forward to most when we head back home.

Hope you have a great Memorial Day weekend!!!

Morning outing to Pier 25

I have been a little stalled on the sewing front lately. Well except for the Iz doll, she was for someone else so of course I managed to get her done. It is when things are for myself that I get stuck sometimes. I am still working on the V8728 dress. I am going to admit that part of the problem is that I change size ALL THE TIME! I have never been able to keep my weight constant. This makes me sort of crazy and I have wardrobe issues b/c of it. I have gained a couple of pounds and am pretty frustrated with myself. I took my eye off the prize and have been having a little too much fun eating my way across NY apparently.

So my point is since I do not have any new sewing news I am going to tell you about the fun things M and I have been doing with our days in NYC. Before we headed out this morning M took some pics in the apartment. She needs to work on her subject matter a little.

Me and my new goofy hat.

My closet.

Outside.

This morning we decided to check out Pier 25.  We headed for the subway and went 2 stops to Canal Street. Then we proceeded to walk around lost for 20 minutes, but M cheerfully marched along enjoying seeing NY. I was very proud of her. Plus it was CRAZY windy and we were not dressed entirely appropriately. The few times I have been in Tribeca I have gotten crazy lost. The Streets over there make no sense at all! It is not a grid it is a mess.

When we were finally almost there we decided we needed to stop and rest and get a snack.

M and her new love of photography took this picture of her muffin and my coffee. It was at the Peace and Love cafe and was pretty tastey.

Then we finally made it to Pier 25 and we were very happy that the playground was very easy to find. The weather was weird and changed frequently.

There was a cool climbing thing.

Binoculars to check out the view.

A climbing wall. And the ground was that squishy playground stuff but was super springy and was the bounciest outdoor surface I have ever walked on.

Is it gonna rain or not?

I am the queen of everything!

Some of the foot holds where these funny little guys. Super fun!

Then we got to play mini golf!! We kept score but I did not add it up, I am pretty sure I won. M sort of cheated a little. She was not so great with the club.

But she just happened to be perfectly dressed for golfing today.

All in all it was super fun! And fortunately on the way back to the subway we were able to head directly there which was nice b/c it was raining. But it only rained a little and when we came up out of the subway at our stop it was not raining. Weird. This weather is just weird. We have decided we cannot let it stop us since we do not have all that much time left in NYC.

Hope you are having a great day!

It's May 8th? really? Doll is done and M fell asleep in a box, again!

So last week is a bit of a blur. We had some emotional drama around here. M was hurt by a friend for the first time for real and was very sad. It was tough. I may have over reacted in a mama bear protective sort of way. But hey live and learn right? Also the weather up here in NYC has been total crap! It is cool and gray and sort of constantly feels like it is about to rain! What the heck? Where did spring go? Or is this what spring is supposed to be like and I am spoiled by the constant summer of Atlanta?

Any way in the midst of the craziness we did have some fun moments.

We built this fort and several others in various forms in every room of our apartment.

M has decided to take up photography as a hobby. And I am teaching her with my insanely expensive SLR and really really need to get her something cheaper and lighter and all together more manageable but she is really into it.

This is a shot she took that I actually really really like. It will be a nice way to remember the playground in our NY neighborhood.

This one is slightly less successful. As you may be able to tell I have my hands on the camera trying to coach her a little. We have various versions of me in this state. I could show you more but you get the idea... M is into photography.

I did manage to finish the Iz doll and send her on her merry way to Ga.

This is her early last week before I got her legs put on and her outfit and hair accessories figured out. This is an old shirt of M's and it is a little too big but is a great color. I ended up using a red version of the same shirt and sending this one with the finished doll just in case she decides she needs the purple rather than the red.

I wanted a picture of M and Iz together to show how big the doll is. But M was being a bit of a grumpy pants. You can't see in the picture but at this point Iz now has little bloomers under her skirt that match it. She also now has a hair bow and a new shirt.

Here is M with a finished Iz looking a little more cheerful. The last touches where a rick rack edged crinoline and a sequence belt.

M took this one. Keep in mind that this weather has been doing terrible things to my hair and I had just gotten back from a yoga class when this photo was snapped.

Here is Miss Iz all packed up and ready to make her way to Ga. She was fun to have around and I may end up making another one, who knows? Maybe a little blond brown eyed one? But maybe not M is really not all that into dolls.

And here is some proof that you really can be super comfortable sleeping in a box. This picture is from late Saturday afternoon. We had gone to a street fair in Chinatown, checked out an awesome playground, gone to the movies and then daddy took her shopping for Mother's Day gifts. Gee she has a rough life ;) But she does always manage to fall asleep in the funniest places.

Hope you are having a restful day where ever you are!

Peace Out - C
