Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Once again we are basically skipping Thanksgiving. I am just not into it the past few years. The craziness, the travel. I love my peeps but would much rather see them all under less pressure.

I am still working away on getting my stuff ready for the booth.

These are fabric flowers in progress. Some are a single piece of fabric ........

and others are individual petals.

Some will be made into pin backed brooches. And others will be hair clips. I love both and wear both hair clips and brooches. But I have a fabric obsession so anything fabric is fantastic to me.

Who do you think wears it better? Me or Ms. Niecy Nash?

I think it is up for debate. But I am pretty sure her flowers are all store bought.  Let me know if you are interested in a tutorial and I will put one together for you.

I have to give a little shout out to my gal pal Diana who taught me how to make these creations. But as I usually do with things, I did them to the extreme and made them my own. When she was showing me how to make them she said, "that is the biggest fabric flower I have ever scene".

I guess that is a bit of a metaphor for how I live my life. But sometimes when you "Go Big or Go Home" you loose more than you anticipate. But at least I take chances is what people keep telling me.

As one of my best buds Lee Anne reminded me just this morning, "It is not going to say... she lead a boring life... on your tombstone!". Thanks Lee Anne I love you too!! (grammar was probably all wrong for that)

I am thankful for all my friends and family who have been supporting me through some tough personal stuff lately!  I love all of you! And those of you I will not see this weekend I hope to see you soon.

Ok so I have been all over the place with this post. A lot on my mind I guess. Have a Happy, Safe & Fun Turkey Day.

What are you thankful for this year?

I get to re-decorate my sewing room!

Last weekend we went to Chattanooga. We met my in-laws there and spent the weekend in this amazing house downtown. Saturday was a PERFECT day, so we spent the day outside up on Look-Out Mountain.

There is a lovely view up there and the trees looked great this time of year.

After taking the weekend off and most of Monday. I had to get mt rear in gear this week. I finished up all the aprons I had cut. So today I have been finishing up the napkins that I am making for the Decatur Holiday Market.

I know in my last post I told you I was going to show you the full toast apron. However I sold it before I even made it. Which is super awesome. But I don't have a picture of it because I have a little time on the due date so it has been back burner-ed while I get ready for the market.

I am trying to get into the holiday spirit. Normally I am not a huge fan of Christmasy stuff. But I really liked this low key holiday print.

And it has been like a one woman sweat shop at my house. But at least I am making progress and starting to feel like I might actually have enough stuff for my booth not to look sad. I am beginning to think I may be approaching awesome, but time will tell.

The napkins are super simple. They are just super cool fabrics serged with a rolled hem. We use cloth napkins around my house everyday. They are not only fantastically cute, the are friendly to the environment. Yes you do need to wash them, but we just throw them in the wash with the kitchen towels that we are washing any way.

If you have a serger and you have not yet figured out how to do the rolled hem, let me know. I can give you some pointers. But once you get the settings right it is super simple and looks great. It is a really handy way to do some stash busting and save the planet just a little.

My sewing room is still a bit of a mess. Right now there is a guy outside rebuilding the brick on the front of my house. Hopefully it will be all fixed and finally look great.

On the up side this means that I now have to re-do the walls on the inside and re-paint. So I get to totally re-decorate my sewing room. Ok so it needs to be hubby's "office" too, but hey I am going to leave his desk in there.

And suggestions what color I should paint?

Feels good to make progress

Those of you who know me personally know that I have had water damage in my sewing room.

I was kicked out of there since Monday because of this. But all the mold has been removed. The water has been dried up and we have a quote on how to get it fixed from someone who will guarantee their work this time. So things are looking up.

While I was out of my work room I was working in the dining room.

Eric was working up here too.
I was really hoping that this would be temporary so I did not drag my machines up. Just the ironing board and fabric and did a ton of cutting.

Now I have piles of stuff to sew up. And I got back into my sewing room today. I finished 2 aprons. But this "Buttered Toast" one is an item I am rather proud of.

Here is a close up of the fabric. Which makes the toasty pocket make more sense.

Aren't those little toasters cute?!? I took a simple half apron and added the little toasty pocket to jazz it up. It will be for sale at my booth at the Decatur Holiday Marketplace. Coming soon - another toasty apron. The next one will be a full apron with a ruffle and a toasty pocket.

Seriously I love it.

Sometimes sewing is just plain fun! What fun things have you been up to lately?

Peace Out - C

p.s. let's hope it does not rain before I can get my dang house fixed!

Aprons, Aprons and more Aprons

I am finally getting my rear in gear about getting ready for the Holiday Market over at Clairmont Elementary. And I am hoping that it goes well. This is my first attempt at selling my stuff in person. I have a lot more work to do but I can only do what I can do and I keep telling myself that showing up three-quarters- assed (b/c half-assed is not in my blood) is going to have to be good enough.

One thing that is inspiring and enabling me to get some more work done is my new iron.

Isn't she lovely?
I wish I had known what a difference it would make to have a super heavy, super hot German iron. This is a replacement for an old Rowenta that I inherited from a friend. My old iron was such an improvement itself I was not aware that things could get even better.

Here is a sampling of what I have been working on. I am making both adult and kid size aprons. I have a couple more days planned out for aprons and then I am moving on to other projects.

I have a ton to do today including calling someone about my leaking house and my squeaky brakes. Neither of which are going to be easy or cheap. Life just keeps throwing crap at my. But I am not the only one with these problems. So I just need to put on my big girl panties and deal.

Hope you get some good work done today!

Peace Out - C!

The blues have hit our house . . . . .

Just a little note. For some reason my motivation is low. And all I want to do is sit around and be lazy watching bad movies on TV. My hubby is feeling a little overwhelmed by work. Even darling little M seemed to be in a bit of a funk today.

Maybe we are all just coming down off our sugar highs. I think this is how most people feel a day or two after Christmas. Maybe we are having post Halloween blues.

I think part of it may be anticipation of "The Holidays". They always tend to give me the blues.

I finally got up some motivation and my iron started leaking brown water again. And since this was an inherited iron I finally decided to buy myself a new iron. I got on good old Amazon and ordered myself the top of the line Rowenta. I hope the new Rowenta will give me my motivation back and get me getting more work done. I will keep you posted.

Peace out - C
